2018. The year of the Selfie!

December 24, 2017

Well it’s almost time to set our New Year’s resolutions. What will you leave in 2017? Why will 2018 be “your” year?

Like many of my fellow Americans, I’ve never been good at keeping my resolutions. (But hey, major props to you if you’re part of the miniscule 8% that sticks to your resolutions!)

Most of the time I forget about them after a few weeks. Oops. For others it might be setting too many or their train gets derailed after small failures. Sad. Well...I don’t necessarily have a typical resolution this year. Instead, I’ve decided to make 2018 all about Self Love. Ok… now bear with me here. Self Love? Seems like a broad topic you might hear about in the self help book you saw on the shelf in the airport gift shop.

2018 is the year I focus on loving myself completely.
I’m not talking just about when I’m feeling like a total badass superhero when everything is going my way. That’s when self love is EASY. How easy is it to look in the mirror and say “Damn I’m a total freakin rockstar” after getting an A on the presentation you worked for weeks on, when you hit a PR in the weightroom, when you nail an interview, or just when you feel like all your preparation is finally starting to pay off towards your goals? That’s when we love to be our own biggest fans, but what happens when shit starts to hit the fan?

What about when you fail a final exam? Or when you make an error in a big game? Or when the one person you want doesn’t want you back? Or just when you just keep fucking up at everything you do and feel like you’re totally worthless? Bye bye total badass self and hello own worst enemy!

I’m no stranger to adversity. I’ve failed so many damn times in the past year. I have let it define me as a person. I’ve let other opinions affect how I look at myself. (Hello FOPO?!) I have WTF wallowed in the fog and let the 3 evil sisters take over my life.

No more! I WTF work the fix now. Adversity and setbacks are pretty damn cool because they’ve made me the strong badass that says “Ok what else ya got?” when life gets a little challenging.

Self love is a process and here’s a little what it looks like:
Letting go and working the fix instead of letting self-doubt take over when adversity strikes
Giving yourself credit for all of your success
Celebrating your strengths
Putting yourself first more
Loving yourself based on who you are and not anyone else’s opinions (FOPO!)
Becoming so fiercely confident, motivated, and disciplined so that you can tackle all those goals you have
Doing more of what makes you happy
Making more time for self-care (yoga, WMD med time, treat yourself to a massage!)
Worrying less and being present in your life
Exploring and learning more about who you are (core values, passions, etc.)
And so much more!
Self love isn’t about being self-centered, egotistical, or narcissistic.
I’m not asking you to be selfish. It’s about taking care of YOU.
It’s not about gloating and flaunting... “look at how awesome I am”
It’s about giving attention to yourself to get the most out of your life.

Make yourself a priority and freakin love yourself.

Self Love. Selfie in 2018!
