Updated: Aug 4, 2023

CHESTER, N.Y . -- Tony Abbatine, the International Director of Instruction for Frozen Ropes will again join the USA Softball Women's National team coaching staff as they prepare for their upcoming international competition this Summer.

With similar positions with Major League Baseball teams— including the New York Mets, Boston Red Sox, the New York Yankees and the Colorado Rockies — Abbatine will provide support in the area of pitch recognition and mental skills training to this year's Women's National Team. Abbatine has worked with several college softball programs, most recently the University of South Florida, UNLV, Oregon State and UNC Chapel Hill.

“Tony’s help in preparing our National Team last year was tremendous," said USA Softball Women's National team Head Coach Ken Eriksen. The 2014 USA Softball Women's National Team took the silver medal in the ISF Women's World Championship and finished the 2014 year with a 28-6 record in international tournament play.

Working with national teams as they prepare for international play is not new for Abbatine. His work in the area of mental skills and pitch recognition has been featured in Sports Illustrated, USA Today and Newsweek.

"It was amazing how receptive these elite athletes were to some topics they had never been exposed to,” said Abbatine. “The great athletes on this team are always looking for the edge in competition; that’s why they are the best of the best."
